advice about online dating

Anonymous started this conversation

Many people look to online dating sites as an alternative to finding their match in local in the typical spots. But I want people to be aware that the person you may be chatting with online may not always be who they appear.

Tonight I had a conversation with a gentleman who appeared to be a nice guy. But I had done a background check on him a few days ago. While he said he was from my area, his IP address proved otherwise. We chatted online for a little while tonight and he kept pressuring me for more information - especially my cell # - which I NEVER give out. As we chatted, I noticed long pauses in his replies to me. I asked if her was checking up on me and he replied "LOL" - Of course he was!

I said if you really want to know about me - come to this site and I gave him the direct link. He said it didn't come up. That's strange. Considering when I clicked on the link, the page appeared. I knew something was up.Over and over hekept asking me for my cell # - which I refused.

He said that I had to prove to him that I was who I said I was, and I could only do that by giving him my cell #. I replied by saying, I understand his concerns, however, he needs to understand my position as well. Considering his IP address showed him to be in Woodstock, Il and his name was no where to be found on the NET, muchless in the area he said he lived in. I said yes, I can do background checks as well and if he wanted, I could do a more thorough one. He logged off.

So a word to the dating world out there... always do a background check... if you can't do one on your own, pay someone to do it for you. It is well worth the cost!

And to Jesse Rufox, if you are reading this, well, I guess I am not the one who has something to prove, am I? But, you are still not getting my cell #.
